WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT POWERWALL
Tesla Powerwall is a rechargeable home battery designed to store energy from solar panels or the electric grid. It powers your home during outages, after sunset, or when electricity rates spike—helping you stay in control of your energy and maximize savings. With smart energy management features and the Tesla app, your system adapts to your usage patterns and updates automatically over time.

What to Expect: Installation Process
Following the passage of the Future Energy Jobs Act (2016) and the Clean Energy Jobs Act (2021), Illinois has become a national leader in clean energy initiatives. These landmark pieces of legislation were created to promote job growth, maintain low energy costs, and dramatically increase access to energy-saving programs.
One of the most impactful outcomes of this initiative is the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program, which offers a wide range of benefits, including:
Once your order is placed and an electricity bill is submitted, we’ll schedule a home energy assessment. This helps determine your current usage, the number of Powerwalls needed, and any necessary electrical upgrades.
We’ll provide guidance on clearing wall and floor space and ensuring easy access to your electrical panel. An active internet connection is required for system performance monitoring—wired is preferred, but Powerwall can use cellular backup if needed.
Our certified team—typically two to three installers—will arrive in the morning. Installations usually take a full day. If solar panels are being installed at the same time, more technicians may be on-site. Expect power to be turned off for 4–8 hours during the installation.
Note: These steps reflect the certified installer process and may vary slightly from Tesla’s direct installations.
We’ll coordinate with your local building department to ensure everything meets safety and code compliance standards. If you’ve installed Powerwall 3 or Powerwall+, activation occurs immediately after inspection.
After installation:
- Download the Tesla App
Use the same email address used for your Powerwall order to sign in. - Enable Notifications
In the app, navigate to Menu > Your Name > Notifications > Energy Products to stay informed about system performance and weather events.
You’ll be able to monitor your home’s energy usage, view live solar generation, battery charge status, and receive alerts—all from your phone.

Switch to Solar with Neighborhood Electric
Ready to take control of your energy costs and reduce your environmental impact? At Neighborhood Electric, we help homeowners harness clean, reliable energy from their rooftops. Our custom-installed solar systems offer long-term savings, energy independence, and peace of mind—all from a trusted local team.
Why Choose Solar?
Save on Your Electric Bill
Generating your own energy means using less from the grid—and paying less for electricity each month. A properly sized solar system can significantly offset your utility costs and protect you from rising rates.
Lower Your Carbon Footprint
Traditional power often comes from fossil fuels. Solar gives you the ability to choose clean energy and reduce your home's carbon emissions—without sacrificing performance or reliability.
Increase Your Home’s Value
Solar upgrades are known to boost property value and make homes more attractive to buyers. In many cases, solar-equipped homes sell faster and for more.
Stay Powered During Outages
When paired with a home battery system, your solar energy can keep essential devices running even during blackouts. Store daytime energy and use it when you need it most.
How Solar Power Works
A standard system from Neighborhood Electric includes:
- Solar Panels – Mounted on your roof to absorb sunlight and create electricity.
- Inverter – Converts the sun’s energy into usable power for your home.
- Smart Monitoring – See your system’s energy production in real time from your phone or tablet.
During the day, your home uses solar first. Any extra power can be stored or sent to the grid for credits (depending on your utility’s policies).
What Happens at Night?
At night, your solar panels pause—but your home doesn’t. You’ll pull power from the grid or from stored solar energy in your battery system. This seamless transition keeps your lights on and bills low.
What if I Produce More Power Than I Use?
If your system generates more electricity than your home needs, the excess energy flows back to the grid. Depending on your utility provider, you may receive credits or reduced charges on your next bill.
What Does It Cost?
Solar pricing depends on:
- System size
- Roof layout and orientation
- Energy needs
- Optional upgrades like home batteries
Neighborhood Electric offers free consultations, straightforward quotes, and flexible financing options. We’ll also help you apply for available rebates, tax credits, and utility incentives.
